Central Missouri (16-4-2) and Washburn (17-3-1) beginning the NCAA Tournament with wins in the first round to force rematch in Second Round. Washburn winning against Ouachita Baptist and Central Missouri earning a win against Minnesota State. Washburn would have home field advantage with owning the top seed in the Region. Central Missouri strikes hot out of the gates looking to convert early on in the match. Washburn Senior Raegan Wells would handle the Jennies till midway through the 1st half with UCM goals by Ashleigh Martin and Andree Orcutt. The Ichabods struggling in the 1st with a goal deficit of 2-0 shocked hopes of the crowd. Washburn Head Coach Davy Phillips did not let this position on the game affect him or his team. With the beginning of the 2nd half underway, the Ichabods would start with small attacks down the sideline but not being able to convert with the Central Missouri defense stepping up. In the 62nd minute the Jennies forced a handball 35 yards out, Washburn took this as an opportunity to look for their first score of the match. The Ichabods did just that with a kick by Sophomore Lakin Rold placing the ball over the top to Junior Khloe Schuckman to finish the attack cutting the Jennies lead in half. Washburn shifted the tensions in the match showing their hopes were still alive. Washburn continued to fight with hopes fading late in the 2nd. In the final seconds of the 2nd, a corner would be given to Washburn Freshman, Mackinly Rohn who has a history of taking exception corner kicks. With her kick, the ball would be placed inside the 6 yard box where it would be bobbled around. With the outstanding abilities of Sophomore Aubrey Tanksley, she was able to get the ball in the back of the net with only 1 second remaining on the clock. This once in lifetime moment would send the Ichabods to Extra Time with the Jennies after fighting back from a 2-0 deficit. With the score even, it would be the matter of a single lucky shot by either team that would settle this long hard fought match. After the first 10 minute of extra time, no changes had occurred. In the second 10 minutes, possession would be back and forth between Washburn and Central Missouri. With time fading away, many thought this match would lead to a sudden death penalty kick shootout. That was until the 109th minutes, the ball would be kicked into the crowded box, UCM Goalkeeper Maddie Meehan who would attempt to catch the ball but would fall due to the rain that had been occurring. The ball would fall and bounce back up from Sophomore Jadyn Allen into a bicycle kick by Junior Khloe Schuckman to score giving Washburn their first lead of the match. Washburn would hold off Central Missouri in the final minutes of the game moving the Ichabods into the 3rd Round after being down 2-0 midway through the 2nd half. Washburn shocks Central Missouri with a 3-2 win in Extra Time. Central Missouri ends their season 16-5-2 while Washburn will look to continue their run against their rival Emporia State in their 4th matchup of the season.
