#8 Ouachita Baptist (11-2-7) just off their GAC Tournament title looking to start off the NCAA Tournament with a win against the #1 seeded Washburn. Washburn (16-3-1) coming off a loss against Emporia State in the MIAA Tournament semifinal hoping to making a strong statement in the first match of the NCAA Tournament. Washburn reigns at the hands of Davy Phillips who is fresh of being named MIAA Coach of the Year along with reaching his 100th career victory earlier this season. Coach Phillips is just getting started and looking to continue at a title run with the Ichabods. Ouachita Baptist opened the match with immediate pressure on Washburn causing many miscues by the Ichabods. Washburn would work to battle the few mistakes made and counteracted the Tigers with 7 shots, with 4 of those being on goal. Washburn flipped the pressure on Ouachita Baptist at the midpoint of the 1st half. The Ichabods would be held at the end of the half 0-0. Washburn carried their momentum into the 2nd half with a strong attack down the line looking for many crosses into the box helping create opportunities for the Ichabods. The Tigers would continue to defend the attacks and begin to have many takeaways down the field into Washburn territory. Ouachita Baptist kept striving for one of their shots to convert, however Senior Raegan Wells would hold off the Tigers with a total of 5 saves on the night. Washburn would struggle after many missed opportunities up to the end of regulation leading to extra time. After a scoreless 90 minutes, Ouachita Baptist would kickoff extra time with an attempt down the field. The Tigers would turn the ball over to the Ichabods who would take control of the game from that point on. Washburn Junior, Khloe Shuckman, would take the ball herself down the sideline before cutting in looking for an attempt to cross. Schuckman’s cross was denied and deflected back to her off a defender which she used as an opportunity to take a shot and score in the 98th minute to give the Ichabods the lead. Washburn retained possession after kick off and would hold off the Tigers in extra time to advance to the 2nd round of the NCAA Tournament.
